Hachi A dog's tale

Okay, I don't do a lot of movie reviews. I DO watch a lot of movies, though. I just always figure that my taste may not be to everyone's taste (since I will watch pretty much everything).

But last night, Hubby and I watched an excellent movie. Here is the "official" description:

From Academy Award-nominated director Lasse Hallström (2000, The Cider House Rules) comes Hachi: a Dog's Tale, a film based on one of the most treasured and heartwarming true stories ever told. Golden Globe winner Richard Gere (2002, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Chicago) stars as Professor Parker Wilson, a distinguished scholar who discovers a lost Akita puppy on his way home from work. Despite initial objections from Wilson’s wife, Cate (Academy Award nominee Joan Allen – 2000, Best Actress, The Contender), Hachi endears himself into the Wilson family and grows to be Parker's loyal companion. As their bond grows deeper, a beautiful relationship unfolds embodying the true spirit of family and loyalty, while inspiring the hearts of an entire town.

We had read about this movie in Entertainment Weekly, where a reviewer said that it would even make men cry. So Hubby had to get it, just to test that out. Well, I have rarely ever teared up at a movie. Hubby says it is because I am cold hearted. I say it is because I have seen so many movies. LOL!

This one had both of us choked up several times. It is sweet and funny and endearing and just a wonderful family film. Thumbs up from both of us!

And besides all that, it has Richard Gere in it. ;)

You know, Annie Jones, I have always loved Richard Gere. He was so fabulous in this movie that it became not about how gorgeous he is, but about the story.

We saw a preview for this movie a while back while watching something else. I searched and searched for it! So as soon as I knew it finally came out, I had it in hand that night. I cried my eyes out. Not necessarily during the movie. I got pretty choked up and let a couple tears sneak out. But afterwards was terrible! Hubby wasn't home when we watched it so I was trying to tell him about it and just completely cried my eyes out. Loved it!

Ace, wasn't is just the saddest and sweetest movie. I could have probably cried my eyes out, but made myself be stoic. LOL! I was still pretty choked up, though.

Well then I can't see it... If I so much as wipe an eye booger while watching anything touching, my kids will mock me.

It sounds great but I hate to cry!

McVal, I think your kids might be wiping their eyes as well.

Well, unless they hate dogs...and loyalty....and friendship.

SonyaAnn, I hate to cry, too. But it is really, really good. It is well worth a tear or two.

I may rent it, but I'll have to watch it alone...my reputation is at stake. LOL

Well, Annie Jones, I think your family would enjoy. Maybe you could just watch it in the dark like we did. The only reason Hubby and I know that we both got teary is because we admitted it. LOL!
