"If you spend $100 a week...."

Is it just me, or does anyone else cringe when they hear this on the WalMart commercials? I know a lot of people do spend that much a week at the grocery store, but I would have a heart attack if my final bill was that high. If it were every week, well, I just wouldn't be here. My heart couldn't take it.

I guess I have been using coupons matched with sales for so long, that spending that kind of money on groceries is a foreign concept to me. Now, I am far from a super couponer and never get those huge carts of groceries for $2.50, but we manage to live quite well on $50 - $60 a week for groceries, household items, pet stuff and HBA. Even when the kids all lived at home, I rarely spent more than $75 a week.

I just don't think I could do it! (I am in no way judging anyone that does spent that at the grocery store. I just can't imagine us doing it.)

We also cringe at that commercial (and laugh and point and make fun). It just seems inconceivable to us, but we know people who go to W-M just about every day and spend $50-$100 every time they go. It's just unbelievable.

Are you talking about the commercial that says "you could save $55 just by shopping at Wal-mart"? That one ticks me off. Because what about those of us who already shop there because it's cheaper and still spend $500/month?! I'd like to know how they could save us regular shoppers some money instead.
I'm taking a couponing class tomorrow night and can't wait.

Hi, Annie Jones, I cringed, too, the first few times I say it. Now, I just wait for it to be over.

You reminded me of when a guy at work came in one day complaining because he spent $500 at WalMart the night before. According to him, his girls "had to have everything they saw". I said, "No they didn't."

If you are going to go insane at WalMart, don't blame your kids.

Ace, that is the one.

I think shopping at WalMart is only cheaper if you go in and buy only what you would buy at another store....a grocery store.

But at WalMart, you have to pass the cute clothes and the books and the cute baby stuff. And it is all such a good deal that you throw it in the cart.

Have fun at your couponing class!

I also hate that commerical. Even my son comments on it. "We sure don't spend that much on groceries each week. Do these people use coupons?"

I cringe, but only because I hate Walmart so much. But yes, I do often spend that much - even trying hard to be frugal. Maybe you need to coach me some more:)

Pam, you have raised a wise son.

I KNOW there are people that spend that much money on groceries, and they can afford it. Heck, I can afford it, I just like to keep my money, not give it away to grocery stores. LOL!

Debbie, I am with you. I used to like going to Walmart, but they are all so HUGE now. I hate wandering from one side of the store to the other when I just need a few items. When we go to WalMart, it is usually to buy something that we know is the cheapest there and we don't get coupons for.

Hubby and I will go in, get the items we need and leave. All though, every couple of years, we get the urge while there to just throw whatever we want in the cart.

We must be low maintenance, since we have never spent over $100 in once trip, unless buying electronics.

Debbie, being frugal is sometimes hard work. Maybe I will do a roundup of some of the blogs I have found that have the best money saving tips. It could help us all.

When I need massive groceries,I may spend a $200 at one time, but usually about $75-80 per week and not at Walmart. I don't know where anything is there and hate having to hunt for stuff. I'll stick with Sam's Club and Cubs, with Aldi's and Dollar General to round things out.

It's ok to judge me, my grocery bill is a mess!
I never shop at Walmart. We had a terrible blizzard and I had to go there to get a few things and I spent at least 20% more than normal. I almost had a temper tantrum!

Hi, McVal, thanks for coming to see me! That is one of my problems with WalMart as well. I don't know where anything is.

Which, of course, would be solved if I shopped there more often. LOL!

SonyaAnn, I would never judge you! Or anyone, for that matter. I kmow that everyone is different and spends their money differently. I only get to decide how to spend MY money! :-)

Please, I need you and slugmama to decide how I spend it.

LOL! SonyaAnn, how far are you willing to go down that path of bargain hunting????
