Curses, foiled again!

It seems like I feel like this a lot. Yes, here comes a small rant.

Our oldest grandson, Theo, will turn 4 on August 29. So, a party is in the works. Our side of the family always has the grandbaby parties and MIL's house, so we only have to do 1 party and everyone that wants can come. Our grandbabies have a lot of partying to do, since Theo has multiple sets of grandparents. There is Hubby and me, MIL, Meredith's mom, and Theo's daddy's parents are also divorced and remarried. LOL!

Since MIL likes to run the show, I just let her figure out when we will have the party. I said I would make a cake and let me know when it was, but I had better get a little advance notice, since I was planning to make a train cake. I would post a pic, but can't find one exactly like I was planning. I had been researching and finding ideas for a couple of weeks.

Sunday evening, MIL called to tell me the tentative plans that she and Meredith made. And we would be having the party this Sunday when Mere gets off work. She will let us know when it is decided for sure, as Mere needs to check with Billy and see what his plans are, since he DOES take the boys every weekend.

Then MIL said that she went to the party store and got Diego plates and napkins. I asked why Diego? She said she "sneakily" asked Theo what kind of party he wanted. I figure here sneaky way was asking "Theo, do you want a Diego party." Well, of course, he does. What 4 year old wouldn't?

I reminded MIL that I had been planning to make a train cake. She told me it didn't matter....Theo wouldn't care. Sigh. Theo loves trains and would love a train cake, but it is not a part of a Diego party.

So, I am figuring out how to make a Diego cake.

Thanks, MIL.

Well if the kid loves trains, go ahead and make the train cake! 4 yr olds don't care or even notice "themes" so Diego and trains go together for them.lol
Be sure and take a pic of the cake for us....I'm sure it will make Theo's day!

Oh, Sluggy, I know in my head that Theo won't know or care, but I guess I am weird. Diego and trains just do not go together for me.

I actually found an idea for a Diego cake that will probably be a LOT easier than the train cake. So, I am a little less frustrated.

It is just that the train was really cute. Well, he will have another birthday. I will just name the theme when he turns 5....well in advance. LOL!

I agree with slugmama - make the train cake! Print out a picture of Diego, cover it with clear plastic (contact paper, sheet protector, etc.) and put him in the conductor's place. Diego goes on a train adventure! Sounds fun to me.

Hi, Jinmo. Thanks for coming by.

I had to go study up on Diego, since I have not watched Go, Diego, Go and aparently he rescues animals. I didn't see any trains. LOL!

Someone else suggested making him the conductor on a train cake, as well. That is a really good idea.

One way or the other, I will make a cake and it will be delicious and adorable. :-)

My MIL does that kind of thing all the time. Luckily the kids are teens now and see through her...
Make it Diego riding on top of a train!
Or waving from the window!

Hi, McVal. Thanks for coming by.

Our kids have called MIL "passive agressive Munner" for years. Not to her face of course. LOL!

I would want it all to flow too! It would just seem messy to me. That said I would make the cake and to hell with everyone else. I think that you are just going to have to do your own thing when it comes to them. It is going to be the only way to keep your sanity!

Hi, SonyaAnn. thanks for coming to see me.

It ends up that there is no "them" to be annoyed with...only MIL. I talked to Meredith yesterday and she said I should make whatever I wanted. "You are not a bakery where we just get to put in orders." LOL! I love that girl!

I just keep telling myself that MIL is 75 and she won't be here forever. Plus, she is just trying to make everyone happy, all the time. Bless her heart.

Oh, and last night Hubby said, "Face it. You are the cake maker in the family. It is your albatross to bear."

He is so funny.

I'm glad you found a Diego cake that will be easier. I bet it will be perfect!

Thanks for coming to see me, Debbie.

I think Theo will love the cake, no matter what is on it. And I will do my best to make it beautiful. (And will post pics, of course.)

Diego riding a train cake??? That wasn't very nice of MIL. *sigh* But what's done is done, huh?? Google it - you'll find a million ideas!
