My cobbler recipe

I just check back through old posts and found that I have not posted my cobbler recipe. Well, if I did, I could not find it. So I thought I would share. It is easy and delicious.

This is not really MY recipe. My sister gave it to me and she hates to cook. A recipe has to be super easy for her to want to make it. (She is a good cook, she just hates doing it. LOL!) I vary this recipe, depending on how much fruit I am using and how doughy I want it. The one above was made using the following:

Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups sliced peaches. (you can use fresh, frozen or even canned)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 stick butter

Put the peaches in a baking dish. Mix flour, sugar and milk until blended. Melt butter and add to batter. Pour over fruit. Put in oven preheated to 350 and bake for one hour. (If the dough does not seem done enough, I just put it back in the oven until it is as done as I want.)

I have used less fruit and decrease the amount of batter and I have used less batter for the same amount of fruit. Just whatever I am in the mood for. Just be sure that you use equal parts of flour, sugar and milk.

My sister's recipe called for dotting the butter on the fruit before pouring the batter on, but my hairdresser told me that he just melts it and mixes it into the batter, so I decided to try that. It worked great.

So there is my super easy cobbler recipe and it works for most fruits. But it does not work with commercial pie filling. I tried that once and the batter did not sink under the fruit...just sat on top. It tasted good, but looked odd.

What!? No cinnamon!? How can it be peach cobbler without cinnamon!? LOL!

Cinnamon? I have never put cinnamon in peach cobbler.

We love cinnamon, but not on peaches.

We're each absolutely right and we know it. Nothing to fight about. ;)

Now all that I need is the wonderful peaches! If I did get my hands on some peaches, I think that we would eat them before they made it to the pie!
That said, the hard peaches that we get here would be perfect for a pie. I'm copying your recipe now!!

Oh, Sluggy, we were not fighting. I respect Annie Jones' need to add cinammon to peach cobbler and I am pretty sure she respects my need not too.

We will hug and make up anyway.

I made it for dessert tonight.

I used closer to 4 cups of peaches and added 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons sugar to them. The only thing I changed about the topping part was that I used 1/2 cup white flour and 1/2 cup whole wheat flour. I baked it in a rectangular dish slightly small than 9x13.

Between the three of us, we ate the WHOLE THING right after dinner!!

How's that for an endorsement?

Annie Jones, I am so glad your family enjoyed it!

I actually sprinkle a little sugar over the peaches when I make it, too. I forgot that part. Though the peaches I just got are so sweet, I probably didn't need it.

I will have to try cinnamon sometime. I just never have.

I was going to come back an update that the recipe I posted does make a really "doughy" cobbler, like a lot of restaurant here serve. I have also decreased the batter or increased the peaches at times. Whatever I was in the mood for.

Thanks for the ringing endorsement.

I love cobbler! It doesn't matter what kind it is, just put a scoop of ice cream on it and I am a happy girl! I just signed up to follow your blog and I am looking forward to seeing what other delicious recipes you will be posting.
