My car smells like strawberries!

I took a vacation day on Friday and it was great! First I had my annual mammogram. That part wasn't the great part, though it wasn't bad. I don't have a problem with them. No discomfort like some have, thank goodness.

Then Hubby and I headed to a local farm to pick strawberries and buy produce. We picked 27 lbs of strawberries! Yummy!
We also bought lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, green beans, brocolli, fuji apples, bell peppers, corn on the cob and new potatoes. All their produce is so fresh and delicious!!

I spent the afternoon and evening prepping strawberries. Some I kept out to eat this week. So I prepped for strawberry shortcake and most I put in the freezer to make jam at a later date. I also froze some of the other produce that we won't be able to eat this week. We also sent some home with Samantha and her boyfriend.

It was a very productive day!

The rest of the weekend has been really nice, though not quite as productive. LOL!

Wow, that's a whole lotta strawberries! I really don't feel that ambitious to do all that. Nice to see your motivated though.

WOW--lucky you!! I would love to be able to do that. We do have a strawberry farm just down the road from us but they did a story on the news about how the strawberry crop wouldn't be very good here this year. The rest of the produce you got sounds amazing too.

Hi, Marilyn's Money! I just love strawberries and fresh produce. And I have a lot of jam to make for Christmas, so it didn't seem like that much work. I just prepped stuff while watching some tv.

Sheila, where are you? We have been hearing on the news how great the strawberry crops are this year! And the field we picked in was LOADED with ripe berries. It only took us about 20-30 minutes to pick all that we did.

Frances,
I am in North Carolina--I think they said it was from too much rain. Some place south of here was just letting the berries rot on the vine--they weren't getting enough money to justify picking them and they couldn't let people in for "you pick" times because of lawsuits and such.

Oh wow!! That is a whole lotta berries!! YUMMY!! I have a small strawberry patch and the it is just now starting to blossom. I'm hoping to get a good crop...if we don't get too much rain, that is. Otherwise, if it gets too boggy and mucky, the berries rot.

You have put me in the mood to make jam...I like to make strawberry/rhubarb jam...yummy! :)

Wow! You have much much more strawberries than I have.Glad you had a great weekend.

Frances said...

Sorry to hear that, Sheila. Maybe your markets will get some nice berries shipped in for a reasonable price.

A.Marie, I wish I had a strawberry patch. But that is the one downside of apartment living.

Fortunately the farm we went to is only about a 1/2 hour drive away. We make up the cost in gas with the savings on the produce.

Hi, Yonca. Thanks for coming to see me. Your strawberry sauce sounds so luscious, I will probably be making some of that.

We got a lot less strawberries than we did last time we went and picked. That time we picked 40 lbs, because Hubby was enjoying it so much. I couldn't get them all put up before some starting rotting. So sad to lose them!

That is alot of strawberries. The squirrels ate half of mine that growing on the deck the other day. Going to have to start from scratch. Guess everyone likes strawberries, even squirrels.

Please invite me over for dessert!!! You have the perfect life, the two of you are so cute.

Hi, Diane...thanks for stopping by. My mom has a little strawberry patch at their house and she never gets any berries as the squirrels eat them. When I go visit, I have actually sat at the window and seen squirrels sitting on their haunches happily munching on strawberries. LOL!

SonyaAnn, you are SO funny!!! You are always welcome to come for dessert, though it might be more cost effective for you to just buy some strawberries. LOL!

Our life is not perfect, it just seems that way most of the time. LOL!

That's what you get from buying 27 pounds of strawberries: a sweet car smell. Hehehe. Man, this made me crave for a piece of toast and some strawberry produce! Hook that up with some hot coffee or cocoa and you have the perfect meal to open up your day!

Congrats for having a great mammogram result. Yum! These strawberries sure gave you a new car scent. I tried making preserves before, but it didn't taste half as good as those in stores. =(
