Ten pints of blueberries!

I didn't take a picture of my pints, but this picture is pretty!

Kroger had blueberries on sale for $1.77/pint. This is the cheapest I have seen them and I needed to buy blueberries this year, since we did not get to go pick them. My blueberry jam stash is running low and it is on my gift list.

So, I went to Kroger on Sunday, ready to buy and I looked at EVERY SINGLE pint that was on display and each and every one of them had at least one berry with MOLD on it! Ugh! I know some people will buy berries and just throw the moldy one away, but I can taste the mold if I do that, so if there is one moldy berry, I don't get them.

I went home with no blueberries that day. Why did I not get a raincheck, you ask, or ask if they had more berries in the back. Well, I don't even know! LOL!

Yesterday morning, I was thinking about it while at work and decided to call Kroger and ask if they had NEW berries, figuring if they did not, I would go get a raincheck. The produce person assured me that they had GOOD berries in.

After work...and working out....I went to Kroger and, sure enough, they had new berries. I got my 10 pints and was happy as a clam. Last night, I put them in ziploc bags and into the freezer they went. They will live there with my other fruit until I am in the mood for jam making. (Or Christmas is getting close, so I HAVE to make it. LOL!)

This weekend, I may get some peaches.

I sure wish I had a yard with fruit trees!

I need to read more closely. I was at the fruit store last night (and given a senior discount :-( ) and the blueberries were 98c. That's the cheapest I have seen them. I have to go back and brave the crowd. Why can't I think of things like freezing them? Argh.

$.98!!! I would buy a ton of them for that! Definitely freeze them. I freeze and save for jam making and baking, but my MIL takes a handful out of the freezer to just throw in her cereal.

Helene, I wish I lived close to your fruit store!

I've never had blueberry jam. Heck, I never eave eat a real blueberry until a year or so ago ROFL. Anyway, after seeing Dr. OZ talk about the health benefits, I bought some frozen ones and try to eat some each day. Last night, I made us all banana/blueberry smoothies. The little ones just assumed they were milk shakes and loved them!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Hi, Dan River Mama! I actually don't love blueberries by themselves and had never tasted one before meeting DH. Well, except in blueberry muffins. LOL!

But I like the jam okay and everyone else loves it. I haven't tried to make smoothies. I have enough frozen fruit to make some. Too bad my blender broke. :-(

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for stopping by, SonyaAnn and Together We Save!

I think I need to start making some more blueberry dishes. After I get my jam made, of course.

I went back tonight and got 10. Into ziploc bags and then the freezer they went. Now how soon can you get a flight this way to do something with them? :-) I saw them on sale at Dominicks for 77c but those don't move as fast as the fruit store so these are fresher. I love blueberry pancakes. They may go good with the 8 pints of Fanny Mae ice cream I got free-bogo Q on a bogo sale. Couldn't find the rest of my Q's or would've bought more.

Helene, you can do a lot with those blueberries! Pancakes, muffins, put them in yogurt, make smoothies.... The possibilities are endless.

If you make a big batch of muffins and don't want to eat them all, they freeze well.

If you like blueberry cobbler, let me know and I can give you the easiest cobbler recipe in the world. LOL! My sister that hates to cook gave me the recipe.

And you could try your hand at jam, too. It is pretty easy.

I like to freeze berries when I get them on sale! I put them on cookie sheets, so they will freeze individually, so I can eat them later individually. They keep their shape that way too!

Hi, Queenie Jeannie! Thanks for dropping by!

I am too lazy to freeze mine on a cookie sheet. LOL! But I don't pack the freezer bags and make sure they are not crushed in the freezer, so they keep their shape pretty nicely. Though that doesn't really matter for jam making. LOL!
