I found out today that the new Kroger policy of not doubling/tripling coupons is only happening in the Greater Houston market. Bad news for us, good news for the rest of the country. So all you Kroger shoppers in the rest of the country are safe....for now.
I can't believe it. I have been having such a lovely vacation and this morning I had time to check my email. I am devastated! I just found out that Kroger is going to discontinue its doubling/ tripling of coupons. That policy is what enabled me to save a lot of money on groceries. And it saved me a load of time as I haven't had to shop multiple stores. I always saved enough that on the items that I didn't have coupons for, it was acceptable to me to just pay the sale prices at Kroger and not run to other stores that might be cheaper.
I guess that will change now. Oh, I don't plan to run store to store for deals, since I just don't want to spend the time doing that. But I will be analyzing more closely who in our area had the overall lower prices. We have so much competition in our area. I know HEB has low prices and of course we have Walmart, though I don't love shopping there. Dollar General and Family Dollar have also expanded their grocery departments. So, I will be on a mission, come the middle of April, to figure out which store will get our grocery dollars.
And I think it won't be Kroger. So sad....I have shopped there since I started doing my own shopping and Mom shopped there since they came to Houston.
But I am not going to let this ruin my vacation. We are on the last day and I plan to enjoy it!
Tomorrow our bathtub is being refinished and our apartment manager told us we would need to leave for a couple of days because the smell is so bad. I have talked to a few people that confirmed how awful it is, so we are going on a mini trip tomorrow. I decided to take 2 days off for a lovely four day weekend.
Today, I went and worked out in the morning, then in the afternoon went for my well woman exam. Everything was good and my girl parts are healthy. Yeah, me! After that, Hubby and I went to to the meat market and loaded up our our freezer. I don't even know what all we got, as Hubby called in the order, but it took us 2 trips to bring it up from ther car. We are stocked for quite a while now.
We had Chinese food for dinner, then back home to watch American Idol.
Tomorrow, we will head down to Galeston for a couple of days. We plan to have a great time! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Not being able to access Blogger from work has definitely put a crimp in my blog action. When I get home, I check in to as many as I can, but sure have a hard time getting to my own blog.
Since I last checked in....well, let's see.
Last week was a pretty good week. I received my annual review. Last year was our first year of reviews under our new company standards and it pretty much sucked for everyone. I was so mad over mine and a lot of other people felt the same way. After years of receiving A+ and outstanding ratings, I got a competent one last year. I was mad, irritated and all kinds of bummed over it. But since I make a really good salary, I stuck it out.
This year, despite the fact that I worked way under my optimum level of performance, in my view, I got an improved rating this year. LOL! I told my boss that my performance the previous year was much better than last year's and he didn't know what to say. I have that effect on him sometimes. LOL!
I received a 2% raise, which was the highest that was given this year, so big woop. But I received a 10% bonus, so I won't complain too much. The bonus went straight into the savings account, so our account balance is now at the highest it has ever been. It makes me very happy!
Last Friday was Meredith's 25th birthday so, since she worked on Friday, Hubby and I went over last Wednesday and took her and the boys, Theo and Wyatt, out to dinner. We had a great time, though Theo made sure to inform us that it was NOT his mommy's birthday, since her birthday was on March 11 and it was only March 9. LOL! He is a smart little cookie.
We had a relaxing weekend and didn't do a lot at all. It was really nice. Back to work today and I was slammed all day. I was so busy that I didn't even watch the clock and couldn't figure out why my stomache was growling in the morning until I looked at the clock and it was noon. So, I guess being busy really does make the time fly.
I usually don't post pics of just me. I am modest like that. LOL! But I decided to thrill you all by showing of my new haircut. Friday morning, when I was getting ready for work, my hair looked like this:
Oh my! You can really see my gray roots! I got a perm about a year and a half ago and though there is a lot left in the ends, I had to work to get any body in the top. And of course, I was in dire need of a haircut, so the top was just too long and liked to flatten out on top.
So, Saturday I went to see my hairdresser, who I just adore. I told him to pretend that I have not been such a freak about my hair all these years and suggest something new, since I was getting bored with it. I have gone through phases, where I wanted no more than 1/2 in trimmed off, not wanting any layers and other demands that he always abided by. He has been stunned the last few years, as I have let him cut layers and take off length like crazy. (I actually had it almost to my waist about 7 years ago. It was gorgeous, but a realy pain in the butt.)
So he made a couple of suggestions and grinned like crazy when I told him to have a ball and get to cutting. I still have some curl in the ends, but he blew it out straight and I really love it. This is what it looked like after being outside in the wind, then playing with it at home for several hours.
I think I can manage to get it looking pretty good myself. I think it will be pretty easy to do. And if I don't feel like blowing it out, I can just gel up the curls and crunch the top some. So I have new hair!
I am married to the man of my dreams and we are happy empty nesters. I have always loved looking for deals and have found that since our kids moved out, we have a LOT more money thanks to my deal hunting. So I keep doing it.
I love reading other blogs and finding new, and old, ideas on saving money and making life better.
The best part of "blog world" is all the fabulous, funny, witty, people I have found!
